Papago and K-Bap: Read a Restaurant Website Before You Go

A restaurant’s menu looks promising, but its website has a Korean notice above the food photos. Before choosing dishes, work out whether that notice affects your visit. It might describe a break between services, a different weekend schedule, or the time orders stop.

Use website or text translation for the restaurant’s notice; use dish information for the food itself. Papago and K-Bap can help with those separate tasks. This guide follows their documented features, not a test of translation accuracy or a report of a restaurant visit.

Start with the right restaurant page

Check the branch name and address before translating. A clear translation of another branch’s schedule still answers the wrong question. Keep the original page open so you can return to its dates, headings, and contact details.

Look beyond the main opening and closing times. The official Patio page at Sono Belle Cheongsong, for example, lists restaurant hours, a break, and last orders separately. It also says the bakery and café remain available during the restaurant’s break. This illustrates why the nearby explanation matters: one service’s break does not describe everything at the venue.

Use that as a reading example, not a timetable for your trip. Check the restaurant’s current notice for the day you intend to visit.

On your phone: open Papago’s website translator

NAVER’s mobile website-translation instructions give this path in the Papago app: Menu → Translate website. The official Papago app listing explains that you enter a website URL to translate the page.

Copy the restaurant page’s address and use that website-translation feature. Then find the same notice in the translated page and compare its numbers and dates with the original. Do not stop at a translated menu heading if the information you need is in a separate notice farther down.

You will need a connection for this mode. NAVER’s offline translation guide explicitly excludes website translation; downloading an offline language pack does not make it available offline.

On a computer: the Papago website route has changed

If you cannot find website translation on the Papago PC website, NAVER’s PC help page explains why: that feature has been discontinued there. It directs users to the Whale browser, where Papago translation is built in. Open the target webpage in Whale and use Translate at the upper right or in its menu, as the help page describes.

That change concerns the PC website feature. It does not mean the Papago mobile app’s website translator has also been discontinued. Check instructions for the product and platform you are actually using.

Read one complete notice at a time

For a short notice you can copy, text translation is another option. Papago’s text-translation help describes selecting the language pair, entering the text, and translating it. Include the sentence around a time or date, not just the numbers.

Keep these questions separate:

Part of the noticeWhat to establish
Opening and closing timesWhich day and branch does this schedule cover?
Break between servicesWhich service pauses, and when does it resume?
Last ordersWhen does the restaurant stop accepting orders?
A dated exceptionIs it a one-day change or the usual schedule?

A translation helps you read what the page says. It does not establish that an old notice is current, reserve a table, or confirm that the kitchen can accept you today. If the notice leaves an important point unresolved, use the restaurant’s contact details to ask before travelling.

Switch to K-Bap when the question becomes the dish

Once you have checked the visit details, you may still be unsure what a menu item is. K-Bap’s official app description describes menu reading and photos and information for recognized dishes. Those features provide food context; a reference dish photo does not answer a question about a branch’s opening hours.

See how to read a Korean menu with K-Bap for that step. If staff later ask you a question about your selection, our Papago and K-Bap follow-up conversation guide covers the exchange at the table.

Explore K-Bap for understanding the food, while keeping the restaurant’s own current information beside your visit plans.
